Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
Shreveport Sports right-hander Robert Averette pitched a two-hit complete game shutout as the Sports defeated Alexandria 5-0 at Fair Grounds Field.
After giving up a one-out single in the first inning, Averette retired 24 batters in a row before allowing a one-out single in the ninth. It was the fourth shutout of the season and eighth complete game of the season for Averette, both season highs in the Central League.;
Shreveport got the only run they needed in the first inning when Herb Hunter led off with a triple and then scored on a single by Tony Schifano. The Sports added a single run in the second, two more in the sixth and a final run in the seventh.
Hunter and Michael Hicks both had three hits apiece for the Sports who banged out 11 hits for the game.
Shreveport and Alexandria will meet in the second game of the three game series Tuesday at Fair Grounds Field at 7:05pm.
