Lubbock Renegades News Release
LUBBOCK, TX: May 23, 2007 - The inaugural Lubbock Renegades of the arenafootball2 opened the week with some roster moves, as they were assigned defensive back Antonio Huffman and placed defensive backs Rolandus Johnson and Chris Smith on re-assignment.
Huffman comes to the Renegades right out of school after lettering the past three seasons with the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The Lovejoy, Georgia native combined for 189 tackles and 4 interceptions from 2003-2005 with the Red Raiders at the cornerback position. Last season, the 5',10" 180-pound 24 year-old registered 75 tackles (54 solo), two interceptions and eight pass breakups in 13 games and was honored as a semifinalist for the Draddy Trophy, which is presented annually to one collegiate football student-athlete for their academic success and contributions to the community and on the field of play. He has been instrumental in the South Plains with various community programs, including Huff's Huggables, which provides stuffed animals to the Lubbock Police Department for comforting children during calls officers receive involving children. Huffman was also awarded the Insight Bowl Defensive MVP last season in Tech's memorable comeback win over Minnesota. Prior to Tech, Huffman attended Garden City Community College.
Johnson was ranked third on the Renegades squad in tackles with 19.5 (17 solo). The product of Mary Hardin-Baylor has appeared in six games and was also ranked second in pass breakups with six. Smith leaves after appearing in four games after beginning the season in Mahoning Valley. He leaves with 10.5 tackles (7 solo), a pass breakup and an interception.
