
Former Otter Sherrill makes Mariners Opening Day roster

April 8, 2007--Three former Evansville Otters, including Seattle Mariners' southpaw George Sherrill, continue to propser in affiliated baseball.
The Mariners summoned Sherrill, who pitched at Evansville in 1999 and 2000, to the majors in 2004. Since then, he has compiled an 8-8 record with one save working out of Seattle's bullpen. The Memphis native pitched at Austin Peay University before joining the Otters.
Shortstop Casey Benjamin began the 2007 season with the Double A Frisco RoughRiders of the Texas League. Benjamin signed with the Texas Rangers after playing five games for Evansville in 2003.
Lefthanded pitcher Jeremy Lewis, a member of Evansville's 2003 and 2004 teams, is pitching for the Class A Brevard County Manatees of the Florida State League this year. Lewis helped the Otters reach the Frontier League championship series twice before signing with the Milwaukee Brewers after a 9-3 campaign in 2004.
Former Otter Andre Simpson, the franchise's career leader in wins and strikeouts, in playing in China this season.
