Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. – The Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League announced on Monday they have signed former Bakersfield Condors defenseman Garrett Stroshein, who appeared in four playoff games with the Condors in 2001-02.

Stroshein, 23, was expected to join the Condors for the 2002-03 campaign when he was invited to the Portland Pirates training camp. The Pirates, in the American Hockey League, are the top minor league affiliate of the Capitals. He never rejoined the Condors, spending almost the entire season with Portland. He played in 28 AHL games, registering one assist and 86 penalty minutes. He also played two games with Richmond in the ECHL last season.

The Edmonton, Alberta native stands in at 6'7", 245 lbs, and has played just two seasons in the professional ranks. While with Portland, he patrolled the right wing, making the shift from his defensive position he held in Bakersfield.

"Obviously, we're happy for Garrett and hope he does well," said Condors Head Coach Paul Kelly. "We were looking forward to having him with us last season. As it turns out, it didn't work out for us, but it worked out great for him. He's a good kid and a big, tough player and now he's going to get a look from an NHL team. We wish him the best of luck.

The countdown begins to the 2003-04 season, with the Condors hosting the Fresno Falcons for Opening Night on Friday, October 17th, just 95 days away. Season ticket packages are available starting at just $48, and group outings are also available.
