Dayton Bombers News Release
The Dayton Bombers have announced that Jamie Ling, a holder of numerous franchise records as a Bombers' player for five seasons, has been named the fifth Head Coach in Dayton Bombers' history. The announcement was made at a press conference held at the Ervin J. Nutter Center Berry Room Tuesday afternoon.
Ling, who wore a Bombers' sweater from 1998-2003 and also served in the capacity of player/assistant coach, will begin his new duties as the Bombers Head Coach immediately.
"Jamie's knowledge of the game, competitive fire, and his natural progression toward a head coaching position makes him the best choice to lead the Bombers in this new era," said Tim Reilly, Bombers Team President. "His commitment to the Bombers and the Dayton community is obvious as is his understanding of the ECHL and its status as a true developmental league."
Jamie Ling, a native of Halifax, Nova Scotia who spent his early hockey years in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, was known as a fierce competitor during his seven-year professional career. A four-year college hockey product of the University of Notre Dame, Ling began his Bombers' tenure during the 1998-1999 season and quickly became one of the Bombers' most popular and productive performers.
Ling finished his Bombers' playing career first in franchise career goals (132), short-handed goals (17), game-winning goals (23), and first goals (22). He was second to teammate Tom Nemeth in franchise career games played (343), assists (251), points (383), and power play goals (42).
Ling, a three-time winner (1999-2001) of the ECHL's Sportsmanship Award and a two-time ECHL All-Star Game Participant (once as a starter and once as a captain), was excited about his selection. "I have always said that I would stop playing when it wasn't fun, my body said it had enough, or if something else was too good to pass up. My knowledge of the ECHL and the city of Dayton will allow me to help the Bombers to be successful both on and off the ice."
Season Ticket Packages for the 2003-2004 campaign (with some as low as $180) in addition to corporate marketing programs are available through the Dayton Bombers' office by calling (937) 775-4747.
