York Revolution News Release
During the course of a 140-game baseball season, games like Thursday night's contest will even happen to great teams. This time, it was the York Revolution's turn to take one on the chin, as they were handed a 14-1 drubbing by the Camden Riversharks, who avoided a sweep, in front of 3,373 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium. The Revs' three-game winning streak comes to an end, as they fall back into a tie with Lancaster for first place. Camden snapped a seven-game losing streak. York's homestand continues on Friday night when they host the Bridgeport Bluefish to open a weekend series.
Camden scored seven times in the first inning, three more in the second, and never looked back.
Revs starter Julio Manon was chased after 1.1 innings in his debut, charged with 10 runs (eight earned). A series of small mishaps in the first inning led to the floodgates opening, as the rout was on early.
After Chris Walker reached on an error to start the game, it was all downhill. Manon, keeping a close eye on the speedy Walker, ran a full count on Richie Robnett before issuing a walk. Then Raul Padron followed with a bloop single to left, pushing home the first run. Manon came back to record a pop-out, but after walking Garrett Guzman with a couple of close pitches that did not go his way, he allowed a two-run ground rule double to Chris Malec to make it 3-0. Teuris Olivares placed a ground ball right on the third base line for another two-run double. Sean Smith then flared a soft RBI single into center, and Walker, who scored the first run, drove in the seventh with a line drive single to center.
Malec ripped another RBI double the following inning, and Olivares collected two more RBI, greeting reliever Vince Perkins with a single to right.
Guzman yanked an RBI single to right field in the fifth, for the only run charged to Perkins in his 3.2 innings of work.
Jason Richardson followed with two scoreless innings out of the York bullpen, and struck out the side in the sixth.
Nick McCurdy was charged with a pair of runs in the eighth inning despite striking out the side. After recording the first two outs, he allowed an RBI double to Robnett, and an infield single to pinch-hitter Shea Harris, producing the other run.
Smith homered to left field off Jim Heuser with two outs in the ninth.
Camden starter Ben Davis took a six-hit shutout into the ninth, but issued a leadoff walk to Ramon Castro, and allowed three consecutive one-out singles to James Shanks, Victor Rodriguez, and Erold Andrus, the latter of which drove in Castro to break up the shutout, and chase Davis two outs shy of the complete game.
Reliever Kieran Mattison came on, however, to record the final two outs with the bases loaded.
Davis (3-9) earned his first win since June 11, snapping a nine-game losing streak. He had been 0-2 with an 8.64 ERA against the Revs coming into Thursday's start.
Notes: The 13-run defeat matched the largest suffered by the Revs this season... the seven-run first inning matched the largest given up by the Revs in club history (July 31, 2008 at Newark)... the Revs were denied a chance to sweep an opponent in consecutive head-to-head series for the first time in club history... they also missed a chance to sweep the same opponent twice in one year for only the third time in team history, and second time this season (have swept Lancaster twice this year)... right-hander Matt DeSalvo (1-0) will make his home debut for the Revs on Friday night against Bridgeport, against lefty Luis Gonzalez (5-3)... first pitch is set for 7 p.m. with gates opening at 6 p.m... it's Adult Softball Night, and there will be a Cap Giveaway presented by O.S.S. to the first 1,000 fans... following the game, Fireworks, presented by Penn State York and FlipSidePA.com, will be shot from INSIDE the stadium... Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office... Playoff tickets are on-sale now for the Revs' Sprint to the Championship... also of note to fans, the Revs are hosting a Brunch With the Players at the White Rose Bar & Grill on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
