Ducks Rally for 8-7 Win Over Patriots

Bridgewater, NJ - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 8-7 before 6,049 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Thursday evening.

Somerset scored first in the bottom of the third inning. First baseman Joe Burke walked, third baseman Jeff Nettles singled, and designated Josh Pressley blasted a triple to right field to score Nettles and Burke. Right fielder Noah Hall then singled to bring home Pressley and give the Patriots a 3-0 lead.

The Patriots added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning after shortstop Iggy Suarez doubled and scored on an RBI single by catcher J.R. Hopf for the 4-0 advantage.

Long Island scored six runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 6-4 lead over the Patriots. The rally was highlighted by back-to-back homeruns by shortstop Erick Monzon (10) and catcher Brendan Monaghan (2).

Somerset answered back with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning after Pressley singled and scored on an RBI single by left fielder Elliott Ayala to cut the lead to 6-5.

The Ducks added to their lead in the top of the sixth inning after Monaghan singled and scored on a single by second baseman Matt Cavagnaro for the 7-5 lead.

The Patriots scored in the bottom of the sixth inning to get within a run of the Ducks on a solo homerun by catcher J.R. Hopf (1).

Long Island added a run in the top of the ninth inning on a solo homerun by first baseman Ray Navarrete (12) to make the score 8-6.

Somerset scored in the bottom of the ninth inning after Pressley singled, was pinch run for by Joe Holden, and Holden scored on an RBI double by Hall for the 8-7 final.

Ducks starter Jake Dittler (10-8) got the win after allowing six runs on ten hits in 6.1 innings pitched. Patriots starter Bill Pulsipher (3-1) suffered the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits in 4.2 innings pitched. Ricardo Gomez picked up his eighth save of the season after pitching the ninth inning.

The Somerset Patriots 2010 Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Friday, August 27th when the Patriots return home to take on the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. The first 1,500 women in attendance will receive a Sling Bag courtesy of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey.
