Ford Powers Cats to Win, Series Split

June 25, 2013 - United League Baseball (ULB)
Fort Worth Cats News Release

On the back of four Shelby Ford runs-batted-in, including his first home run of the season, the Fort Worth Cats defeated the Edinburg Roadrunners 8-3 at Edinburg Stadium on Tuesday.

As they have on numerous occasions this season, the Cats (20-12) got the scoring started early with two runs in the first inning and one more in the second.

Ford, the designated hitter for the evening, broke the game open with a three-run home run in the fifth inning to make the score 6-0.

The Roadrunners (14-18) managed to scrape across three runs against Cats' starter Aaron Wilkerson in his six innings of work. Wilkerson struck out 10 Edinburg batters through those six innings and now leads the United League with 49 strikeouts this season.

Just when it looked like Edinburg was getting back in the game, the Cats added a run in the seventh inning and another in the ninth.

Trevor Longfellow came on in relief of Wilkerson and threw two hitless innings, surrendering a lone walk to go with his one strikeout. Wes Alsup pitched a scoreless ninth inning to end the game.

With the win, Fort Worth splits the road series with the Roadrunners, and the Cats have yet to lose a series this season.

On Wednesday the Cats begin a four-game road series with the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (16-16) before returning home to face the Alexandria Aces on Sunday, June 30.

Tickets to all home games can be purchased by going online to FWCats.com or by calling (817) 332-CATS.
