San Angelo Colts News Release

Alexandria, La. --- The San Angelo Colts and Alexandria Aces split their doubleheader Tuesday night at Bringhurst Field. San Angelo won game one, 3-0, and then the Aces took game two, 9-2.

Game one starter Corey Frerichs (4-1) pitched a complete-game shutout. Frerichs allowed just four hits and struck out five batters in the win. It was his second consecutive complete-game, and the first shutout in the United League.

The Colts' offense provided Frerichs with three runs in the fourth inning. Second baseman Jon Dziomba hit a leadoff home run, and four batters later right fielder Dan Evatt crushed a two-run homer. It was Dziomba's first home run of the season, and Evatt's second.

Evatt's homer scored left fielder Braden Embry. Embry reached base on a hit by pitch.

Aces' starter Dan Schmidt (3-1) went the distance, but took the loss. He allowed the three runs on four hits and struck out a game-high eight batters.

The Aces used an eight-run second inning in game two to blow past the Colts. Twelve batters came up to the plate, and second baseman Eddie Murray and centerfielder Chad Bunting both hit three-RBI doubles. All but one batter reached base and came around to score.

The lone exception was right fielder Zack Cadet, who scored in the fourth inning on a leadoff home run. It was Cadet's second homer of the year.

Dziomba and shortstop Danny Hernandez were responsible for the Colts' runs in game two. Dziomba hit a leadoff homer in the seventh, giving him two on the night.

Colts' starter Russell Johns (0-1) suffered the loss. He allowed seven runs on five hits in 1 2/3 innings. Aces' reliever Nathan Stewart (2-1) picked up the win, yielding an unearned run on two hits in as many innings of work.

Following the doubleheader, the Colts are 17-15 and the Aces are 16-16. San Angelo begins a four-game series against the McAllen Thunder Wednesday at Foster Field.
