
'Force wins first playoff game

Sioux Falls, SD (March 15, 2006) - The Sioux Falls Skyforce defeated the Albany Patroons tonight 106-97 (5, 2) to improve to 1-0 in the postseason. The âForce improved to 9-0 at home against Eastern Conference opponents as they bounced back after an ugly first quarter performance. Albany dropped to 0-1 and now heads home to face Idaho on Saturday night.
With quarter-points deciding which teams advance to the CBA Finals this season, the âForce could not afford to lose a game at home. The âForce came out flat in the opening quarter as Albany won the quarter 26-17 behind 11 points from T.J. Thompson. The âForce trailed by as many as 15 points (32-17) just two minutes into the second quarter and things were not looking good. However, the âForce chipped away at the lead and cut the deficit to three points (49-46) with just over two minutes remaining in the first half. Albany held on to the lead and a near halfcourt shot from Jamario Moon at the buzzer gave the Patroons a 63-55 lead heading into the locker rooms. The âForce won the high-scoring second quarter 38-37 behind 19 points from Geno Carlisle. The âForce would complete the comeback effort as they tied the score at 65 a piece with 8:37 remaining in the third quarter. The âForce dominated the Patroons in the third quarter and went into the final quarter leading 91-76. The âForce won the quarter 36-13 behind 17 points from Jermaine Walker. Albany would not go down without a fight as they cut the lead to six points (97-91) with just over 5:00 to go in the contest. However, Jermaine Walker hit some timely shots and the âForce picked up a huge win in their first playoff game. The Patrooons did win the fourth quarter 21-15 behind eight points from James Thomas.
The Skyforce's next game is on Saturday, March 18, on the road against the Gary Steelheads. Tip-off is set for 7:05 pm at the Genesis Convention Center.
