Boise, ID (March 16, 2006) - The Continental Basketball Association announced today that Gary Steelheads coach Jaren Jackson has been named the CBA Coach of the Year for the 2005-06 season, as voted on by the eight CBA general managers. Jackson garnered five of the possible eight first-place votes from the general managers.

Jackson led the Steelheads to a No. 1 overall seed in the 2006 CBA Playoffs after Gary finished the regular season 29-19 overall with a league-best 197.0 quarter points (4.10 QP avg.). Included this season was a franchise-tying nine-game winning streak to start the month of February.

This season, Gary improved a net total of 24 games after finishing 14 games under .500 last season (17-31) and 10 games over .500 this year at 29-19, one of the greatest single-season turnarounds in CBA history. The Steelheads raised their quarter point average to 4.10, an increase of 1.3 quarter points per game over last year. And, the Steelheads won an incredible 25½ more quarters than a year ago.

Jackson became the fourth coach in Gary Steelheads franchise history on July 29, 2005. With him, he has brought a background filled with success. The 1989 Georgetown University alum began his professional basketball career as a rookie free agent in 1989 in the NBA, playing for nine teams over his career, including the 1999 NBA World Champion San Antonio Spurs. Jackson also played for two CBA Championship teams, including Wichita Falls (1991) and La Crosse (1992). For his CBA career, Jackson averaged 15.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 154 games. Jackson was also a member of a World Basketball League (WBL) Championship team.

Prior to coaching at Gary, Jackson served as head coach of the Philadelphia Fusion of the American Basketball Association (ABA) for one season and served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Georgetown, in 2003-04.

Jackson attended Walter L. Cohen Senior High School in New Orleans, La., where he was the Senior Class Valedictorian in 1985. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Georgetown in 1989.

Gary begins its postseason tonight, March 16, when it hosts the Western Conference-champion Yakama Sun Kings at the Genesis Convention Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. (CST).
