Rockford Lightning News Release
Rockford takes on the Idaho Stampede tonight at the MetroCentre. Tip-off is set for
7:05 P.M. (CST) with the first 1,000 fans in attendance receiving a free Lightning
team poster.
The Lightning are 0-1 in the playoffs after a close loss on Tuesday night in Yakima.
All-star guard Marlon Parmer, who finished the game with 30 points, 6 rebounds, and
7 assists led the Lightning, but came up short as they fell to the Sun Kings
108-114. After losing the first quarter by one point, and heading into the locker
room down 5 at the half, the Lightning battled back to win the third quarter and
trail by a single point to start the fourth. The team took the lead in the fourth,
but was unable to close it out down the stretch.
Despite the close game, Rockford managed just 1.0-quarter points in the game.
Leading scorer and floor leader Ronnie Fields was missing from the Lightning lineup
on Tuesday night. The team had not even heard from Fields when it was time to take
the floor. He was scheduled to take a separate flight from the team as he had to
stay in Chicago an extra day to tend to personal business. An article in the
Rockford Register Star on Thursday morning led Lightning fans to worry about the
health and whereabouts of their all-star guard.
"There was a misunderstanding on Tuesday," said Ronnie Fields. "I just want to let
everyone know that I am all right, and I will be back tonight. My Father was very
ill and I found out on my way to the airport that I had to get to the hospital. I
wasn't able to get a hold of my teammates or coach because my cell phone was dead,
but I am all right."
All Lightning playoff games will be broadcast on 1330 AM with the game tonight set
to air at 6:45 P.M. (CST) as the Lightning take on the Stampede. Tip off is
scheduled for 7:05 P.M. at the MetroCentre.
Make sure to come out and support the Lightning in what could possibly be the final
Lightning game at the Rockford MetroCentre.
The Lightning's first round finishes on Monday, March 20th with Rockford traveling to Sioux Falls in a rematch of last season's CBA finals at 7:05 P.M. The two teams with the highest quarter point average in the first round will face off in the 2006 CBA finals. Dates for the finals will be determined following the first round games and pending arena availability for each team.
