Force Make Trade Deadline Deal

February 28, 2023 - United States Hockey League (USHL) - Fargo Force News Release

Just minutes ahead of yesterday's 6pm USHL trade deadline, the Fargo Force were able to acquire forward Zam Plante from the Chicago Steel. The 5'10, 168 lb left shot forward is in his 2nd year in the USHL and has scored 8 goals and 15 assists for 23 points in 33 games with the Steel this season. Last year, Plante split time between Chicago - where he had 10 goals and 11 assists for 21 points in 31 games - and Hermantown High School. Plante captained the Hawks to the 2022 MN Class A Championship with a whopping 64 points in just 22 games.

At last June's NHL Draft, Plante was selected in the 5th round (150th overall) by the Pittsburgh Penguins. He is in the 2004 birth year, and is committed to attend the University of MN-Duluth. The Plante family is well known in hockey circles, as his Dad Derek played 8 seasons in the NHL - mostly with the Buffalo Sabres - and has had a long and successful coaching career. He currently is an Assistant Coach with the Chicago Blackhawks. Zam's younger brother Max is a forward with the NTDP U-17 team in the USHL.

"We are thrilled to add a very skilled and highly competitive player to our forward group", said Force general Manager, Cary Eades. "We have watched his game develop over many years and we've always been impressed with his playmaking ability at critical times of the game, to go along with his high compete level. He definitely is another weapon for our team at the forward position and by adding him we feel it gives us a better chance of staying on top of the regular season standings, and more importantly, hopefully what will be a long Clark Cup play-off run into April and May".

Heading to Chicago in the trade is 2004 defenseman, Reid Conn. The 6'4, 210 lb Colorado native appeared in 29 games and had 1 goal and 3 assists with the Force in this his 1st campaign in the USHL. "Reid has been a great team guy all season long, and his game is showing steady improvement," said Eades. "We wish him nothing but success with the Steel." The trade also involves Phase 1 and Phase 2 draft picks going to Chicago in the 2023 USHL draft, which will be held in early May.

Plante, who will wear #23 for Fargo, is expected to be in the Force line-up this weekend when they host the Omaha Lancers at Scheels Arena. The Force stand atop the USHL standings with a 31-8-5 record, and are currently on an 11 game point streak (9-0-2).
