Players of the Week: Dane Dowiak (Tri-City/USHL Forward of the Week) contributed to a pair of Tri-City wins last week with a goal and five assists for six points. The Wexford, Pa., native had a hand in all four goals with a goal and three assists in 4-2 win over Sioux City Saturday. The Penn State commit has 7-14- 21 in 39 games played for the Storm on the season
Max Burkholder (Dubuque/USHL Defenseman of the Week) had a four-point week with two goals and two assists over the course of two wins last week. A native of Chaska, Minn., and a Colorado College commit, Burkholder stands tied for the league lead in goals by defensemen with 14. For the year he past posted 14-23- 37 in 43 games played and this is the second time he's been named USHL Defenseman of the Week this year.
Jacob Fowler (Youngstown/USHL Goaltender of the Week) went 2-1-0 with a 1.31 GAA and .950 sv% in three games last week. The Boston College commit had 35 saves (including six in OT) on 36 shots in a 2-1 shootout win over Cedar Rapids last Friday. The Melbourne, Fla., native, who stands 18-8-3-1 on the season, with a 2.36 goals against average, .921 save percentage and league-best five shutouts, is now a five-time USHL Goaltender of the Week this year.
Point Taken: Fargo, which has gone 8-0-2-0 in its last 10 games and owns a 31-8-2-3 overall mark, maintains its position as the top team in the Western Conference (and in the league) with 67 points. Waterloo, which pinned a pair of 4-3 overtime losses on the Force in February (Feb . 4 and Feb. 24) is 7-2-1-0 in its last 10 games and with a 29-14-1-0 mark and 59 points, ranks second in the Western Conference with 55 points.
Chicago (29-14-2-1), which has gone 7-2-1-0 in its last 10 games, has 61 points in ranking as the top Eastern Conference squad. Green Bay (26-15-2-1) and Youngstown (25-14-4-1) are tied for second in the Eastern Conference with both teams at 55 points. One of the hottest teams in the league, the NTDP is 8-2-0-0 in its last 10 outings and is fourth in the Eastern Conference with 49 points.
Noteables: Waterloo owns the USHL's best overtime record with a 7-1 mark in the extra session. The Black Hawks are also 3-0 in games which have gone to shootouts and own a combined record of 10-1 in their 11 games that have gone to OT/shootout on the season.
Fargo stands 23-1-2-0 when leading after one period of play. The Force are the stingiest team the USHL with a league-low 108 goals allowed (Youngstown ranks second with 120).
Net Worth: Green Bay's Kristoffer Eberly turned aside 20 shots in picking up a 2-0 win over Eastern Conference-leading Chicago last Saturday to earn his second shutout of the season. An Ohio State commit who's from Pinckney, Mich., Eberly stands 19-8-1-1 for the season with a 2.83 goals against average and a .893 save percentage.
USHL NHL Alumni Spotlight: The USHL's Forward of the Year in 2009-10, Jaden Schwartz is in his 12th NHL season. Schwartz, who had 33-50--83 in 60 games with Tri-City in 2009-10 as the USHL's leading scorer, spent two seasons with Colorado College before joining the St. Louis Blues at the end of the 2011-12 campaign. The Wilcox, Sask., native who currently skates for the Seattle Kraken, won the Stanley Cup as a member of the Blues in 2018-19 and has registered 175-260--435 in 647 NHL contests.
USHL College Commitments 2022-23: A total of 354 current USHL players have committed to play NCAA Division I college hockey. 50 schools are represented amongst the 354 commitments including 92 players headed to Hockey East teams, 86 players to the National Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHC), 77 players to Big 10 programs, 57 players to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association (ECAC), 32 players to the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA), six players to Atlantic Hockey (AHA) teams and four players to independent programs.
