
Fontenot Sparks Rally in Tulsa Win

Hidalgo, TX; March 25, 2008- Despite trailing for most of the game, a late comeback sparked by reserve guard Jason Fontennet led the Tulsa 66ers past the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 98-93 Tuesday night at Dodge Arena. The win by the 'Sixers broke a four game losing skid, with all the losses coming to Southwest division opponents. The Vipers have now lost three of their last four games.
The Vipers trailed for most of the first quarter as they struggled to find their shot but rallied to take a first quarter lead at 26-24. The Vipers led for nearly the entire rest of the way until Ronald Dupree's put-back slam off a miss at the 3:24 mark of the final quarter gave the 66ers their first lead since the 1st half at 87-86. The team's traded the lead over the final minutes until Jason Fontenet's jumper from the right baseline put Tulsa up for good with less than a minute left.
Fontenet scored 11 of his 18 points in the final quarter to lead the way for Tulsa. The former Oregon State standout also chipped in with six assists. Jeremy Kelly was leading the scoring for Tulsa with 17 points, but was ejected with 4:48 remaining in the third quarter. Keith Closs blocked six RGV shots and hauled in eight rebounds in the win.
Desmon Farmer scored 24 points and dished out seven assists to lead the way for the Vipers. Kris Collins, starting for the injured Quannas White, scored 20 points before fouling out late in the fourth. Quin Humphrey and Sergio Sanchez scored 15 and 10 respectively to round out the double-digit scorers for RGV.
The Vipers will begin a three-games-in four-night stretch against the Albuquerque Thunderbirds on Friday night. Tip-off is schedule for 7:00 pm at Dodge Arena. Friday night is also Houston Rockets Affiliate night presented by Adidas. The Vipers will wear Houston Rockets uniforms and the game will feature performances from the Rockets Power Dancers and Clutch, the Rockets mascot.
