Mad Ants Road Trip
March 25, 2008 - NBA G League (G League)
Indiana Mad Ants News Release
Roster Changes.......Before heading to North Dakota for a week long road trip, the Mad Ants made a change to their roster by adding former NBA and Duke standout Dahntay Jones. Jones was recently waived from the Sacramento Kings after playing in 25 games, where he averaged 3.2 points per game. Jones was a 2003 1st round draft pick by the Boston Celtics and then was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies, where he signed a 4 year contract. To make room on the roster for Jones, the Mad Ants waived shooting guard Rob Griffin. The Mad Ants will also be without 7'1" center Cheikh Samb on the road trip as Samb has been recalled to the Detroit Pistons.
A Rough Start......On their first stop of a 4 game stretch on the road, the Mad Ants' two-game winning streak came to a close with a loss to the Dakota Wizards, 125-102 on Friday night in North Dakota. The Mad Ants had no answer for Dakota's Carlos Powell, who had 37 points and 7 assists. The Wizards shot over 50% from the floor and from behind the 3 point arc. In his D-League debut, Dahntay Jones led the Mad Ants with 18 points. Center Larry Turner filled the void left from the loss of Cheikh Samb by recording his third double-double of the season with 16 points and 15 rebounds.
Minnifield out with Injury.....Mad Ants power forward Corey Minnifield went out with a shoulder injury in Friday night's game against the Dakota Wizards. Minnifield has been diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff and will not play in Tuesday's game in Dakota. The recovery time for Minnifield is indefinite. He is averaging 16.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game for the Ants.
Calloway Scores 44 in the Ants' Disappointing Loss....After a poor performance on Friday night against Central Division leaders the Dakota Wizards, the Mad Ants bounced back and played a hard fought game Saturday night that came down to the wire. The Mad Ants led by as many as 19 points but could not close out the game as Carlos Powell's layup with just 22 seconds left on the clock gave the Wizards the 110-109 victory. In the losing effort, Earl Calloway recorded a season high 44 points on 7-13 shooting from the 3 point arc and 13-13 shooting from the free throw line. Forward Nate Gerwig also set a season high by pulling down 18 rebounds. In his 2nd game with the Ants, NBA veteran Dahntay Jones finished with 24 points and 6 rebounds.
Mad Ants Looking to Finish the Road Trip with an Even Record ..... After going 0-2 against the Dakota Wizards this weekend, the Mad Ants will attempt to avenge their 1 point loss against the Central Division leaders on Tuesday night, as they take on the Wizards for the third time in just 5 days. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 P.M. EST. The team will then travel to Des Moines, Iowa to take on the Energy, Thursday night at 8:30 P.M. EST. All games can be viewed live on the Mad Ants' website, www.fortwaynehoops.com or heard on WGL 1250 AM. The Ants return home to the Memorial Coliseum this Sunday, March 30th to take on the Iowa Energy at 6:00 P.M. The Mad Ants record stands at 15-27 with just 8 games remaining on the season.
