Fontaine to Sing National Anthem Saturday

Brandon, MB. -- The Brandon Wheat Kings have announced that 17-year old singer-songwriterAli Fontaine will perform the national anthem before Saturday night's Western Hockey League game against the defending champion Kootenay Ice.

Born and raised in Sagkeeng, Manitoba, Ali has been singing and performing for as long as she can remember. She entered and won her first talent show when she was eight years old. Two years ago, she placed third in the annual NCI Jam and that same year, she entered a talent competition called "Manitoba Star Attraction Showcase". It was there that she was chosen one of five winners, which provided her with the opportunity to record her first song.

Since then, Ali has completed her first self-titled album, which was released across Canada in 2011. The album's debut single reached #1 for two weeks in November on theNational Aboriginal Music Countdown.

As well, Ali was one of twelve artists to be selected for the Manitoba Music and ACI Manitoba Music Mentorship Program. The program is designed to expand the singer's knowledge in the music industry as well as the business skills that come with it.

Nominated for three awards at theAboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards at the MTS Centre last fall, Ali won Best Country CD, Best New Artist as well as the Minister Robinson Most OUtstanding Manitoban Award.
