Kansas City Monarchs News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (5-3) pitching staff stifled the Kansas City T-Bones (6-2) Friday night, taking game one of the three-game series, 3-0, in front of a record home-opening crowd of 7,208 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
RedHawks starter Scott Fogelson (2-0) kept the T-Bones lineup off balance, scattering three hits over seven-plus innings, walking just one and striking out nine. Fogelson did not allow a runner past first base, and only seven T-Bones batters had balls reach the outfield. Fogelson left after allowing a leadoff single to Brian Joynt in the eighth inning.
The RedHawks took the early lead as Mike Coles began the game with a single off Andrew Cruse. Coles later scored on a Jesse Hoorelbeke single, the only run Cruse surrendered. Cruse allowed six hits over seven innings, recording four strikeouts and walking none.
Steven Stewart started the eighth for Kansas City. Coles reached on a leadoff walk and scored on an RBI double by Nic Jackson to push Fargo's lead to 2-0. Eric Campbell reached on another leadoff walk in the ninth, and later scored on an RBI double by Alan Rick that capped the scoring on the night. Stewart left in favor of Erik Hamren after allowing two runs and walking three in one and two-thirds innings of work.
Joynt paced the T-Bones, reaching base in all three of his at bats, going two-for-two with a walk in the loss.
Kansas City continues their first homestand of the season with two more games against the RedHawks on Saturday and Sunday. Southpaw Reid Santos is scheduled to start Saturday's game against right-hander Matt Mossey of Fargo. First pitch is set for 7:05.
