Nowicki and Schultz power the "Pilots" to victory

Schaumburg Flyers News Release

Schaumburg, IL - The Flyers (2-6), now known as the "Pilots", put together a complete effort at Alexian Field on a perfect Friday evening with a 5-3 win over the Gary Southshore Railcats (3-6). The name change comes in a move to express the organization's loyalty to the Chicago Blackhawks as they make their bid for a Stanley Cup title.

Joe Nowicki and Chris Schultz each drove in a run and together scored three runs in the winning effort. The Schaumburg pair went a combined 4 for 7 to lead the Pilot to its first victory since Opening Night over a week ago.

Starter Brett Harker finally played the role of stopper that Schaumburg had been searching for. The righty tossed six innings, giving up just three runs while scattering eight hits. Harker also struck out three in the effort, walking one. Reid Price followed and retired Gary in order in the sixth and seventh. Closer Matt Elliott came on in the ninth looking for his first save of the year and set the Southshore Railcats down in order, striking out second baseman Chris Carrara to end the game.

The Pilots did most of their damage as part of a three run fifth inning. Nathan Price walked to begin the frame and advanced to second on the Travis Brown sacrifice bunt. Brandon Newton flew out to Southshore Railcats center fielder Mike Massaro to make the second out of the inning. Then the Pilots came up in the clutch with a Chris Schultz single through the right side to plate Price. Joe Nowicki followed up that at bat with a double, moving Schultz to third. Catcher Richard Mercado then hit a grounder to third baseman Jeff Beachum, who threw the ball away, allowing Joe Nowicki to cross the plate.

The Pilots look to make it two in a row against the Southshore Railcats at Alexian Field tomorrow night at 6 PM. Come early for the game and then stay late for the Miller Lite Post-Game Party in the Schaumburg Club featuring live music!
