Flying Tigers Starter Spenser Watkins Named Florida State League Pitcher of the Week

Lakeland, FL - Lakeland Flying Tigers starting pitcher Spenser Watkins has been named Florida State League (FSL) Pitcher of the Week. The FSL selection was for the period of June 25 - July 1.

Watkins started the second game of a doubleheader on June 19 against the Charlotte Stone Crabs at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium. He was within two-outs of a no-hitter before giving up a one-out single in the top of the 7th inning. Watkins finished up with one hit, one walk and seven strikeouts in the 7-inning complete game victory.

This is Watkins' fifth professional season. He was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 30th round of the June 2014 draft. Watkins, 25, was an FSL All-Star Selection and currently leads the league in ERA (1.55) and is second on WHIP (0.97) and Batting Average Against (.212).
