Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

The Winnipeg Goldeyes dropped the third game of a four-game set this afternoon, falling 3-2 to the Schaumburg Flyers before 6,895 at Canwest Park.

Winnipeg opened the scoring off Dustin Glant in the second when Vince Harrison led off with his 11th home run of the year, including his sixth in just 13 games with Winnipeg. Kevin West followed with a walk and scored on a Dee Brown double. Schaumburg responded in the third off Andrew Cruse. Tony Mansolino singled to lead it off, stole second and scored on a one-out single by Antoan Richardson. Things stayed that way until the ninth.

With closer Chris Homer in, Felix Jose singled and was replaced by pinch-runner T.J. Wilson, who promptly stole second. In trying to get Wilson, catcher Brent Metheny's throw hit Homer in the back. Homer left the game and was replaced by Mark Michael. Lyndon Poole singled to score Wilson to tie it before being erased in a double play. Mansolino doubled with two out and scored on a Joe Pauley double to give the Flyers their first lead of the day.

Harrison drew a walk from closer Cephas Howard to start the home half of the ninth but was forced at second when West grounded into a first-pitch double play. Brown hit a two-out single but got no further when Metheny flew out to end it.

Glant (8-8) picked up the win, allowing just two runs on five hits in eight innings with two walks and a strikeout. Michael took the loss after allowing one run on three hits in two-thirds in one inning. Howard earned his sixth save with a shutout ninth.

This series, as well as the regular season, concludes on Monday at 7 p.m. Ace Walker is up for us while Tom Lyons replies for them in a battle of righties. Following tomorrow's game, the Goldeyes head for the playoffs, which begin Wednesday. Great seats starting at just $5 are available at all Ticketmaster locations, including the ballpark box office, by calling 780-3333 or visiting ticketmaster.ca.
