JackHammers Win on Rios Single

Joliet JackHammers News Release


JOLIET-SS Kevin Rios (1-4) hit an RBI single in the bottom of the 9th inning to give the Joliet JackHammers (33-61) a 2-1 win over the Kansas City T-Bones (45-50) before 3,164 fans at Silver Cross Field on Sunday night.

Kansas City took the lead with a single run in the 6th inning. 1B Jim Fasano (1-4) hit a two-out single and went to second base on a single by C Craig Hurba (1-4). A throwing error by Joliet 3B Wally Backman, Jr. allowed Fasano to go to third base on the play. An RBI single by 2B Neb Brown (3-4) gave Kansas City a 1-0 lead.

Joliet tied the game in the 8th inning. DH Joe Gaetti (1-4) hit a solo home run over the right field wall for a 1-1 tied score.

The JackHammers struck again in the 9th inning off of RHP Brady Martinez (0-1). LF Mike Garcia (1-1) earned a walk and stole second base. Eric Scriven (0-0) came in to pinch-run for Garcia. CF Adam Klein (0-3) popped out to left field in foul territory and 2B Rob Dahlberg (2-4) singled Scriven to third base. He scored on a bloop single to right field by Rios to give the JackHammers a 2-1 "walk-off" win.

Loose Gravel: The JackHammers recorded nine strikeouts on Sunday. Tomorrow night the JackHammers and Kansas City T-Bones finish their series at 6:05 p.m. It's Fan Appreciation Night in the final game of the 2009 season for the JackHammers. The JackHammers will put on a fireworks display after the game sponsored by Pepsi. Come out to the ballpark for special mystery giveaways throughout the night. It's the final chance for students to use their National City Jammer's Book Buddies Program Reading Club Vouchers. The T-Bones have yet to announce a starting pitcher while RHP Jason Novak (2-6, 7.09) gets the start for the JackHammers.
