Flyers Announce Armed Forces Day & Boy Scout Camp Out

May 28, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Orange County Flyers News Release

The Orange County Flyers will host the second-annual "Armed Forces Family Night" on June 26 at The Station at Cal State Fullerton to help raise money for Operation Gratitude while serving as a chance for the community to thank all past and current members of the military. All members of the military and their families will be admitted free to the ballpark, and gates will be opened at noon with an afternoon picnic in the park followed by a special Armed Forces baseball game at 1pm.

Before the Flyers take the field for the 5:05pm first game of a doubleheader against the Chico Outlaws, the team will host a special pre-game ceremony to recognize members of the military featuring a ceremonial first pitch that will be delivered by five veterans representing all five branches of the military as well as the last five American wars. The pre-game ceremonies will also feature a color guard from all five branches of the armed forces, and there are plans to recognize a Medal of Honor recipient.

Orange County's players will don camouflage jerseys for the night, which fans will have a chance to bid on throughout the night in a silent auction. All the proceeds from the silent auction will go to Operation Gratitude, a volunteer organization that assembles and ships care packages to troops overseas. The Van Nuys, Calif., based Operation Gratitude has sent more than a half-million care packages to American Service Members since it was formed. Flyers fans will also be asked to help in writing 5,000 thank you cards to our troops that Operation Gratitude will then include in their packages.

The Armed Forces baseball game will feature an Army/Air Force team against players from the Navy/Marines/Coast Guard. Prior to the Armed Forces baseball game at 1pm, the Flyers will open up the ballpark at noon for all families to enjoy a picnic on the outfield grass. Fans are invited to bring their own picnic basket, blankets and treats for the afternoon. Concessions at the ballpark will also be available beginning at noon.

The Flyers and Outlaws will play a doubleheader on Saturday, June 26 beginning at 5:05pm. The second game of the twin bill will begin shortly after the conclusion of the first game. Tickets for Armed Forces Family Night are available by calling the Flyers office at 714-526-8326 or at www.OrangeCountyFlyers.com
