Toros Lose 5th Straight In 9-2 Defeat
May 28, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Tucson Toros News Release
The Toros left 15 runners on base and allowed 4 unearned runs in a 9-2 loss to the Yuma Scorpions on Thursday night. The loss was the fifth straight for Tucson following the club's 3-0 start to the season.
Although hits were tough to come by for Tucson, the club had runners on base throughout the ballgame thanks to six walks and five hit batters by Scorpions pitchers. The Toros were unable to capitalize however, scoring just single runs in the 4th and 9th innings.
Second Baseman Jose Valdez was the only Toros with multiple hits with his 3-for-4 performance. Pitcher Matt Lincoln doubled for the team's only extra-base hit of the game. Rightfielder Victor Ferrante went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 6 games.
Lefty Matt Lincoln continued the trend of Toros starters running into difficulty in their 1st inning of work by allowing 2 runs to the Scorpions during their first frame. Tucson pitchers now have an ERA of 12.38 in the first inning and a combined 3.00 in all other innings.
The Toros and Scorpions will face off for the second game of the three game series in Yuma on Friday. The team will return home for a three game homestand starting Tuesday, June 1st.
