GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - The Greeneville Flyboys scored five unanswered runs to erase a three-run deficit to take down the Pulaski River Turtles, 5-3.
Despite the win, Greeneville (17-20) was officially eliminated from playoff contention when the Johnson City Doughboys (27-8) also won on Wednesday. The River Turtles (9-25) were officially eliminated last night.
Pulaski got off to a hot start again in game two of the series. The River Turtles scored three second inning runs on five singles. J.P. Gauthier, Jack Wentworth and Derek Smith all had RBIs in the inning.
The Flyboys picked up a run in the second inning on an RBI groundout by Avery Collins. It was his seventh RBI of the season.
Greeneville's big inning took place in the third. Johnny Pilla picked up a one out hit to start the rally. He stole second base and reached third on a throwing error. Joel Dragoo drove him home with a single. It was Dragoo's 35th RBI which is the second most in the Appalachian League. Gavyn Boyle followed Dragoo's hit with a home run off the foul pole into right field. It was Boyle's sixth home run of the season, and it gave Greeneville a 4-3 lead.
Ethan Phillips (1-2) started the game for Greeneville and went six innings. Phillips tallied eight strikeouts and now leads the league in punch outs with 40.
Parker Shipley came on and pitched the final three innings for Greeneville to pick up his first save. Shipley is committed to play at Radford and just graduated from Greeneville High School. He had complete command of the zone as he struck out five and issued no walks on his way to the nine out save.
