PRINCETON, W.V. - The Greeneville Flyboys scored nine unanswered runs and held on late to sweep the Princeton WhistlePigs on seven inning Sunday, 9-7.
The WhistlePigs (9-14) scored the game's first three runs, but the Flyboys (12-12) responded with nine straight to get to .500 at the halfway mark of the season.
After scoring a run in the third inning on a Tyler Cerny RBI hit, the Flyboys added four more on a grand slam by Austin Bode to take a 5-3 lead in the fourth. It was Bode's first home run of the season for Greeneville.
Joel Dragoo picked up an RBI in the fifth inning on a double to make it 6-3. It was RBI 23 on the season for Dragoo who is second in the league in RBIs behind Colby Backus.
Jack Mosh added two more in the sixth on a double and scored on a throwing error by the catcher to make it 9-3.
The WhistlePigs made it interesting in the sixth when they scored four runs on five hits off of Tyler Serb. Serb recently joined the Flyboys and just graduated high school in the Spring.
Daniel Eagen came in to pitch the final inning. He allowed the tying run to reach second base with one out but induced a strikeout and a groundout to end the game and pick up his first save of the year. Roan Tarbert (1-1) pitched five innings and allowed three runs to get the win. Jacob Stretch (0-1) took the loss for Princeton.
Up next, the Flyboys will play in Elizabethton on Monday at 7 p.m. local time. A link to listen to the game can be found on the Flyboys website.
