Greeneville Flyboys News Release
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - The Greeneville Flyboys scored five ninth inning runs to shock the Princeton WhistlePigs and win, 8-7, on Saturday night.
Greeneville (10-11) scored the game's first run, but the WhistlePigs (9-13) scored four in the fourth and led all the way until the top of the ninth.
The inning started with back-to-back walks to Jack Mosh and Joel Dragoo. Gavyn Boyle hit a sharp single off the first baseman's glove to score a run to make the score 7-4. Wallace Clark then sent one on the ground to second base, but the ball was bobbled, and another run scored. Solen Munson came on as a pinch hitter and got a base hit on a swinging bunt up the third base line. Pitcher Caden Parker (0-1) threw wildly down the right field line, which allowed Boyle and Clark to score to tie the game at 7-7. Munson made it all the way to third.
After a pitching change, the infield came in with Kerry Collins on the mound. Collins got Avery Collins to fly out to left field with no advance by pinch runner Nick Barone. Johnny Pilla then grounded a ball to the right side with a drawn in infield. The throw came home but was late and it was 8-7 Greeneville.
The Flyboys threw only two pitchers in the game. Seth Dudley (3-0) came on as a reliver in the fifth inning. After Greeneville scored five ninth innings runs, he came on in the bottom of the ninth to try to pick up the win. He allowed a two out base hit but nothing else. Dudley pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowed four hits, two runs, one earned run and struck out six batters.
The Flyboys will play Princeton again tomorrow at 6 p.m. local time. A link to listen to the game can be found on the Flyboys website.
