Florence Wins Hard Fought Battle

Richmond, Indiana - Richmond lost to Florence 10-7 despite five errors committed by the Freedom defense. The Roosters rallied to take the lead in the sixth but gave up five runs in the last two innings to drop the rubber match of the three-game series.

The Roosters scored in the first inning for the second night in a row when Mike Reese led off the game with a homer to deep left field. The Freedom would go on to score the next five runs however, getting three in the fourth and two in the fifth. Mike Galloway, Darin Kinsolving and Kyle Geswein each had a homer during the two-inning stretch that put Florence on top 5-1.

The bats came alive for Richmond in the sixth when the team put a six-spot on the board. Josh Hollingsworth hit a two-run homer to left field, Kiley Vaughn doubled to center for a RBI and Mike Bidwell hit a RBI single to retake the lead at 7-5.

Florence tied the game in the eighth when Kyle Geswein hit a two-run homer to left-center, then took the lead in the ninth when Wally Quigg doubled to right field and scored Josh Sanchez. Mike Galloway added a couple of insurance runs in the inning with a single to center that scored two and gave Florence a 10-7 lead and eventual win. Ted Rowe (5-1) got his fifth win of the season while Beau Massey (0-1) took his first loss.

The Roosters will begin a three-game series against the Washington Wild Things on Sunday at McBride Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 4:35 p.m. (Indiana time). Richmond will start Jared Howton (3-2, 4.78 ERA) against Brendan Davis (3-1, 4.60 ERA) of the Wild Things.
