Rockford RiverHawks News Release
ROCKFORD, Ill. - The "13 is an unlucky number" concept certainly applies to the Rockford RiverHawks.
The RiverHawks left 13 on base and lost, 3-2, to the Mid-Missouri Mavericks at Marinelli Field. They've left 13 on base three times this year and lost each time.
For its part, Mid-Mo left 14 on, but never trailed. Alex Derhak broke a 1-1 tie with a RBI groundout in the third inning.
Jeremy Busch and Nick Johnson led off the bottom of the ninth with back-to-back singles, but Pete Eberhardt struck out Aaron McEachran and retired the next two as well to get his first save.
Nick Renault (5-3) pitched into the seventh inning to earn the win. Starter Tanner Watson (0-1) lasted three innings in his first appearance for the RiverHawks.
Game two of the three-game series is Free Day. General-admission tickets are no charge, and available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The RiverHawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
