
Fletcher Extends Hit Streak Thursday Night in Loss to Hooks

Corpus Christi, Texas - The Amarillo Sod Poodles dropped the third game of their series against the Corpus Christi Hooks by a score of 4-0 Thursday night at Whataburger Field. D-backs No.15 prospect Dominic Fletcher recorded one of Amarillo's two hits, a double in the first inning, to extend his hit streak to 13 games.
The Hooks initiated the scoring for a third straight night on Thursday in the first inning. Corey Julks led the half off with a single followed by a second-straight base hit by David Hensley to put runners on the corners. The third batter of the half, Korey Lee, then took his second pitch deep to left field off of Soddies southpaw Tyler Holton to quickly make it a 3-0 Hooks lead.
In the fourth, after two quick outs, Ross Adolph hit a solo home run to left field to extend the Hooks lead to 4-0, which would complete the night's scoring.
Soddies righty Ryan Weiss replaced Holton in the fifth and settled the Hooks bats in his three frames of work, allowing just three hits with three strikeouts while Mack Lemieux tossed a shutout and hitless eighth inning with three strikeouts of his own.
Overall, Soddies pitching combined to strike out 10 batters with just one walk allowed.
With the Hooks win, they improved to 2-1 in the week-long series. Game four of six is scheduled for tomorrow at Whataburger Field for 7:05 p.m.

13 Games and Counting: With his double in the top of the first inning, D-backs' No. 15-rated prospect Dominic Fletcher now has the longest active hit streak on the team and has tied his career high at 13-games. He is hitting .346 (18-for-52) during that span. Since the beginning of June, the former Arkansas Razorback is hitting .348 with seven multi-hit games. Fletcher accomplished his last 13-game hit streak in 2019 while with Kane County. On Wednesday, Stone Garrett ended his respective hit streak at 13 games. The longest recorded hit streak in Sod Poodles franchise history is 19 games, set by Ivan Castillo in 2019 (7/2-24 - 29-for-81, 12 R, 7 2B, 19 RBI, 3 BB, 3 HR).
Locked-In Lemieux: Right-handed reliever Mack Lemieux has shut out opposing teams in six of his seven appearances so far in June. On Thursday night, he tossed a solo shutout frame with a walk surrendered and three strikeouts, improving his ERA to 3.86 on the season.
Holton's Outing: In his ninth Double-A start, southpaw Tyler Holton tossed four innings of four-run, eight-hit ball with four strikeouts. It marked his second consecutive start without surrendering a walk although he tied for a career high in hits allowed.
Starters Splits: The Sod Poodles starters have dropped to 5-18 with a combined 5.98 ERA. The wins total ranks T-8th in the Double-A Central and 10th in the league in ERA. Meanwhile, the bullpen ranks 4th in the league in strikeouts (248) and T-3rd in saves (11).
Long Ball Wall: As a staff, Soddies arms have allowed at least one home run in 17 straight games, since June 6. In the span, Amarillo has surrendered a total of 36 home runs, which is the most allowed in Double-A in the 17 games.
Zeroed: The shutout loss Thursday night to Corpus Christi marked the fifth for Amarillo in 2021 and second against Corpus Christi. On May 30, the Soddies were shutout 7-0 by the Hooks. Overall, the Sod Poodles are 2-5 in shutout games this season.
Swiped Bags: The Hooks four stolen bases Thursday night at Whataburger Field tied a 2021 season-high in stolen bases by an opposing team in a game. On May 29 in Corpus Christi, the Hooks set the season-high with four swiped bags against the Soddies.
Tomorrow's Tidbits: Game four of this series will feature RHP Luis Frias (2-3, 5.08 ERA) on the mound for Amarillo against Hooks' RHP Brett Daniels (0-3, 9.67) at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi, Texas.
