Modesto Nuts News Release

Stockton, CA. - Matt Flemer's gem was not enough in the Nuts 5-4 walk-off loss to the Ports on Tuesday night at Banner Island Ballpark.

Matt Flemer tossed seven innings and allowed just two runs while striking out a season-high eight batters for the Nuts (5-14, 28-61). Flemer stranded just four base runners while giving up six hits walking one batter and pitching around one error.

With the Nuts leading by a run in the ninth against the Ports (14-5, 51-38), Bruce Kern (L, 0-3) was given the save opportunity but allowed back-to-back base hits forcing an intentional walk which loaded the bases for Jaycob Brugman. Brugman lined a potential game-ending double-play ball off the leg of Nuts' shortstop Rosell Herrera. It ricocheted into right allowing the tying and winning run to score.

Michael Ynoa (W, 4-2) danced around three walks and a single in the eighth and ninth innings to keep the Ports close.

The Nuts had taken an early lead thanks to back-to-back jacks in the first inning. Mike Tauchman hit his fourth home run in eleven games with the Nuts as part of a 2-for-4 day. Will Swanner followed with a solo home run, his team-high eighth of the year.

The Nuts continue a three-game set with the Ports by sending lefty Ryan Carpenter to the mound. The Ports will counter with righty Jake Sanchez. First pitch is scheduled for 7:20 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:15 p.m.
