Flash shoot 61-percent in victory at Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind., Feb. 10, 2009 - The Utah Flash shot a blistering 61-percent from the floor and beat the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, 113-100, Tuesday at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.

The victory sends the Flash, who made 46-of-76 from the field, into the NBADL All-Star break with a 17-11 record and in second place in the West Division. Fort Wayne dropped to 11-17 despite shooting 53-percent from the floor.

Utah started fast and led 33-29 after one quarter, converting 15-of-21 field goal attempts (71-percent). Fort Wayne shot 60-percent from the floor in the first half, but trailed 64-56 at the break. Utah limited the Mad Ants to 8-for-20 from the floor in the third quarter to effectively put the game away.

"We came out with good energy," Flash head coach Brad Jones said. "Good things happen when we execute. James Lang scored inside like we have been expecting him to, Ronald Dupree got us off to a fast start and J.R. (Giddens) helped finish things up."

Lang scored 21 points to lead the Flash, while Giddens and Dupree added 20 each. Dupree scored 18 in the first half and was limited to one field goal in four second-half attempts. Giddens has converted 22-of-35 field goal attempts (63-percent) since being reassigned by the Celtics three games ago. Dontell Jefferson scored 15 and dished out seven assists for the Flash. Carlos Wheeler chipped in 11.

Ron Howard scored 26 for Fort Wayne to lead all scorers. Chris Hunter and Walker Russell had a double-doubles for the Mad Ants. Hunter recorded 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Russell had 11 points and 10 assists. Taj McCullough came off the Ants bench to score 20.

The Flash is off for nine days, playing next at Anaheim on Feb. 20 and then at home against the Iowa Energy on Feb. 21. Dupree will play in the NBA D-League All-Star Game Saturday in Phoenix. Fort Wayne is back in action Feb. 16 at Iowa.
