
Vipers To Help With Special Olympics Saturday

HIDALGO, TEXAS - The NBA D-League Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced today that they will be assisting athletes at the Special Olympics area Basketball Tournament on Saturday at Weslaco East High School. The tournament includes team and individual skills competitions.
Members of the Vipers' front office, the Vipers' mascot, Fang, and members of the Snake Charmers dance team will be on hand to assist and cheer on the estimated 500 athletes participating in this year's basketball tournament.
Following the tournament, Vipers' players Trent Strickland, Quin Humphrey and Stanley Asumnu will be handing out trophies and medals to the athletes at the awards ceremony. In addition to their awards, each of the participating athletes also will receive a voucher for a free ticket to the Vipers' February 26th 7:00 p.m. game against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants at Dodge Arena.
"The Vipers are excited to be assisting the Special Olympics in this year's area basketball tournament. This tournament is not only inspiring, but the embodiment of sportsmanship," Vipers President and General Manager Brian Michael Cooper said.
Opening Ceremonies begin at 9:00 a.m., with the individual skills competition running until noon. The team competition will begin at 1:00 p.m.
