Asheville Tourists News Release

KANNAPOLIS, NC-- Every once in a while things go right for a team all at the same time. That was the case for the Asheville Tourists in the third inning of their Sunday evening contest against the Kannapolis Intimidators. The Tourists rallied for five of their six runs in that frame and came away with a 6-4 victory over the Intimidators.

Trailing 1-0 entering the visitors half of the third, Dom Nunez led off the inning with a walk. After Emerson Jimenez sacrificed Nunez over to second, Omar Carrizales delivered with a single up the middle to tie the score. Forrest Wall then walked putting two runners aboard for Shane Hoelscher.

The Tourists third-baseman roped a double into the left field corner plating two. Immediately following Hoelscher's double, Drew Weeks squared up a Yency Almonte offering and planted it over the centerfield wall for a two-run Home Run. The Tourists tacked on two more hits in the inning; a single by Josh Fuentes and a double by Luis Jean. When the third out was finally recorded, Asheville held a 5-1 lead which was more than enough of a cushion.

Louie Lechich clubbed a solo Home Run for Kannapolis in the bottom of the third, but Asheville's Sam Howard dialed in afterwards. The left-hander tossed scoreless frames in the fourth, fifth, and sixth while facing a total of ten batters through those three innings. Yoely Bello allowed a run in the seventh, but worked out of a jam to keep the Tourists in front 5-3.

Both teams traded runs in the ninth with Asheville's coming off an RBI single by Hoelscher. Josh Michalec earned his league-leading 15th save of the season by closing out the home team. Weeks reached base four times and Hoelscher tallied three RBI on the evening.

The Tourists have led by at least three runs entering the ninth inning in all four games of this series. Asheville and Kannapolis will wrap up their five-game set on Monday night with the first pitch slated for 7:05pm.
