A grand slam by Christian Vazquez capped a five-run, first-inning outburst by Greenville, and the Drive went on to beat the Lexington Legends 5-3 Saturday night at Applebee's Park.

Greenville took a 1-0 lead when leadoff batter Derrik Gibson doubled and scored on two wild pitches by Legends' starter Brandt Walker. Wilfredo Pichardo grounded out, but the next three hitters walked before Vasquez homered over the left field bleachers.

The Legends came back with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. With one out, Grant Hogue reached first base on a third-strike wild pitch by Greenville starter Ryan Pressly. Jose Altuve's double scored Hogue with Lexington's first run. Altuve moved to third on a ground out by Jiovanni Mier, and scored when J.D. Martinez doubled to right field.

Lexington added one more in the fourth inning on Kody Hinze's solo homer, his third home run in two nights, but Greenville relievers Pete Ruiz and Cesar Cabral kept the Legends in check. Pressly and Ruiz each recorded five strikeouts, and Cabral added two.

Ruiz (1-0) got the win. Walker (1-1) took the loss. Cabral earned his first save.

The series resumes with a 2:05 p.m. game Sunday at Applebee's Park.
