Five-Run Fifth Propels Hickory to 8-3 Win over BlueClaws

LAKEWOOD, NJ - Marcus Greene broke a 1-1 tie in the 6th inning with a solo home run to open a five-run Hickory inning as the Crawdads topped Lakewood 8-3 on Thursday night at FirstEnergy Park.

Hickory's inning, after Greene's home run, included an RBI double by Jose Cardona, an RBI single by Isiah Kiner-Falefa, an RBI single by Michael de Leon, and a double-steal on which Cardona was credited with a steal of home.

The Crawdads (35-18) open the four-game series with a win and the BlueClaws (25-26) dropped their sixth straight game in which they had a chance to get over .500.

Collin Wiles (6-2) gave up one run over seven innings to earn the win for Hickory. Lakewood's Ranfi Casimiro (2-4) allowed four runs, three earned, over 5.1 innings and took the loss. Lakewood's Austin Davis (two), Matt Hockenberry, and Manaure Martinez all allowed runs in relief for the BlueClaws.

Lakewood took a 1-0 lead on a first inning bunt single by Rhys Hoskins but did not score again until the 9th inning. The game ended on a base hit by Derek Campbell which scored one run but Jiandido Tromp was tagged out between third and home for the final out of the game.

Malquin Canelo and Hoskins each had two hits for the BlueClaws.

The series with Hickory continues on Friday at 7:05 pm. RHP Chris Oliver (3-4) starts for Lakewood against RHP Nick Gardewine (4-3).
