KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 4, 2015)- The Delmarva Shorebirds used five runs in the fourth inning to beat Kannapolis, 8-2, at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Luis Martinez took his fourth straight loss (1-6) lasting just 3.0 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits while walking three and striking out one.

Delmarva broke the scoreless tie in the top of the third inning to make it 1-0. T.J. Olesczuk doubled to right field, scoring Jay Gonzalez from first.

In the home half of the third inning, Kannapolis scored two runs to take their first lead. John Ziznewski doubled and scored on a double by Eddy Alvarez. Two batters later Alvarez scored on a ground out by Nick Basto, to make it 2-1.

In the top of fourth inning, Delmarva exploded to plate five runs and take a 6-2 lead. The 'Birds loaded the bases with three consecutive singles to lead off the fourth inning. The next at-bat Gonzales doubled to left field to score two. After Kelvis Valerio replaced Luis Martinez, Cameron Kneeland grounded out to short scoring Jared Breen. An Olesczuk single and Conor Bierfeldt double knocked in a run each to complete the five run fourth.

The 'Birds added two more in the fifth to extend their to 8-2 and never looked back.

Kelvis Valerio worked 4.0 innings of relief, allowing three runs on five hits while walking two and striking out two.

Mike Means (4-2) earned the win by going 6.0 innings, allowing two runs on five hits while walking one and striking out five.

The Intimidators and Shorebirds continue their 4-game series Friday at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Right-hander Thad Lowry (5-2, 3.81) gets the start against Delmarva' southpaw Brian Gonzales (3-3. 5.29).
