Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., April 30, 2013) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Somerset Patriots 6-5 on Tuesday night in the first game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.
The Ducks put up a two-spot in the first inning against Patriots starter Erik Arnesen on a RBI single to left field by Ramon Castro and a RBI double to left-center by Ryan Strieby. Two more runs came across in the fourth as Danny Perales launched a two-run home run to right field.
Somerset scratched out a run in the sixth on a bases loaded walk to Luis Montanez allowed by Ducks starter John Brownell. It would stay that way until the eighth when a five-run inning gave the Patriots a 6-4 lead. A two-run double by Montanez and a pinch hit two-run single by Mike Wilson highlighted the scoring. Long Island got one back in the eighth on a RBI single to right by Ben Broussard, but they could not pull even.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Brownell allowed just one run on four hits in five and one-third innings while Arnesen surrendered four runs on nine hits in five innings. David Harden (1-0) picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief, and Jared Lansford (0-1) suffered the loss, yielding four runs on four hits in the eighth inning. Jon Hunton earned his fourth save with a scoreless ninth.
Castro led the Ducks with three hits while four other Ducks each chipped in with two.
The Ducks and Patriots continue their three-game set on Wednesday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a Ducks Pin Pennant as part one of seven in the 2013 Collector's Series. Southpaw Matt Way takes the mound for Long Island against Patriots right-hander Brad Thompson.

###
Duck Tales: Danny Perales' two-run homer in the second was his team-leading third of the year. The Ducks have now hit 10 home runs in the season's first 11 games, with all 10 coming in the last eight contests. Perales hit six home runs in 72 games last season with Las Vegas (AAA, Blue Jays)...With three hits in the ballgame, Ramon Castro earned his second three-hit game of the year. His first came on April 20 against the Sugar Land Skeeters in Texas. Ray Navarrete also had three hits for the Ducks in that game...With a single in the seventh inning, Adam Bailey extended his team-leading hitting streak to seven games. That's good for the third-longest in the Atlantic League this season behind Bridgeport's Daniel Mayora (11) and Somerset's Jake Fox. Entering the game, Bailey is batting .296 (8-for-23) during the streak.
