Trenton Thunder News Release

(Trenton, NJ) - A season-high five homeruns were not enough for the Trenton Thunder (35-22) Monday night as the team fell 8-7 in 12 innings to the Reading Phillies (30-26) in front of 6,705 at FirstEnergy Stadium. DeAngelo Mack, Corban Jospeph and Yadil Mujica each hit knocked a long ball and Bradley Suttle added two solo homeruns. But, the Thunder allowed a run in the ninth to tie the score 7-7 and fell in the twelfth on a walk-off single by Derrick Mitchell.

The Thunder trailed early in the game but were once again able to chip away at the Reading lead. Trailing 3-0 in the top of the second, DeAngelo Mack smacked his first career homerun at Double A, a two-run shot, to bring Trenton within a run. Then, trailing 4-2 in the top of the third, Corban Joseph and Bradley Suttle hit back-to-back homeruns to tie the game 4-4.

After Reading took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the fifth, Trenton would score three unanswered runs to take a 7-5 lead. Yadil Mujica made it 5-5 with his first career homerun, and, with two outs in the sixth, Jose Pirela scored from second base on a Freddy Galvis error to give Trenton their first lead at 6-5. Suttle added another solo homerun, and the Thunder lead it 7-5.

However, Reading would then score three unanswered runs themselves to take the game 8-7 in twelve frames. Grant Duff could not close out the game for the Thunder, who had a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the ninth, and Cory Arbiso, the sixth pitcher of the game for Trenton, surrendered the walk-off base hit in the twelfth.

Trenton loses for the first time at FirstEnergy Stadium (3-1) and for just the second time overall to the R-Phils (5-2) in 2011. The Thunder will need a win Tuesday night to avoid losing back-to-back games for the first time since late April.

The Trenton Thunder continue their four-game series with the Reading Phillies Tuesday night at 7:05 PM from FirstEnergy Stadium. LHP Kei Igawa (2-2, 4.26) gets the start for the Thunder, while the R-Phils will counter with RHP J.C. Ramirez (5-4, 3.57). Tune-in to the game from Reading, PA on 91.3 WTSR-FM and on trentonthunder.com. The SBLI Pre-Game Show with Hank Fuerst begins at 6:50 PM.
