New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats have been playing solid baseball this season - they are currently near the top of the Eastern League's East Division - and are looking forward to returning home on Tuesday night to open their 6th Homestand of 2011, a six-game set with two West Division foes. In first is Akron - the Eastern League affiliate of the Cleveland Indians - to be followed over the upcoming weekend by Erie, EL partners of the Detroit Tigers. The aspiring Indians - a/k/a the Aeros - will arrive at New Britain Stadium at 6:35 PM tomorrow night (6/7) to commence a quick weekday series in the Hardware City. And once the Aeros hit the road back to the Buckeye State, in come the young Bengals for a compact Friday night-thru-Sunday afternoon set that will feature - in addition to some terrific baseball - a Friday Night appearance by Skeeter Kingsolver, a popular member of the Professional Bull Riding Tour, a Post-Game Fireworks Show, a Saturday Night return appearance by the Famous Dancing Christopher, and a series-concluding Sunday Afternoon contest that will be the centerpiece of another Family Fun Day at the ball park!
Here are additional details associated with the `Cats 6th Homestand of the 2011 Season:
TUESDAY NIGHT, JUNE 7th, 6:35 PM:
The action kicks off at 6:35 PM on Tuesday night when the Akron Aeros - the EL franchise that spawned Manny Ramirez, Jim Thome and C.C. Sabathia, among others, pulls into the Hardware City to start this 3-game, mid-week series. As its Tuesday night, it's also Kids Eat Free Night as each child 12-and-under and accompanied by an adult, will receive a coupon good for a Free Hot Dog, Soft Drink and bag of Mini Bites Muffins, courtesy of our friends at Bimbo Bread. Moreover, it's a two-fer for the kids as it's also Bat and Ball Set Giveaway Night for the first 1,000 kids into the Stadium, thanks to our safety-conscious friends at Click It or Ticket! They'll need some help carrying all this stuff!
WEDNESDAY NIGHT, JUNE 8th, 6:35 PM:
The would-be Indians are back again on Wednesday night at 6:35 PM to play the middle contest of this 3-game series. The Aeros bring a new skipper - Chris Tremie - and he's got his guys in the thick of the race in the EL's Western Division. Wednesday night is also a great giveway night as we'll be handing out Joe Mauer Kids Jerseys to the first 1,200 fans 12-and-under through the doors! This is a Rock Cats replica uniform top with the two-time AL Batting Champ's name on the back! We hope that if our fans wear this in New England - Joe will soon be wearing his own back at Target Field! And just for a kicker - Wednesday night is also Family-4-Pack Night at the Stadium as, thanks to our pals at Vantis Life - fans get 4 Reserved Seats, 4 Hot Dogs, 4 Soft Drinks and 4 Popcorns for just $30! Two fabulous deals!
THURSDAY MORNING, JUNE 9th, 10:35 AM:
The Aeros from Ohio will help the Rock Cats stage their 5th Baseball in Education Game of 2011 at 10:35 AM on Thursday Morning. Akron brings a talented squad to the Hardware City as several of their players are ranked by Baseball America as among the Best Prospects in the Cleveland organization; the big league Indians are currently in 1st Place in the Central and it is clear the organization is again headed in the right direction. Before the early game even begins, however, the Rock Cats will be rewarding the first 1,000 fans through the gates with a terrific, multi-color Rock Cats Beach Towel Giveaway - just in time for Summer - and courtesy of our buddies at Bimbo Bread.
FRIDAY NIGHT, JUNE 10th, 6:35 PM:
With the Aeros gone, here come the Erie Sea Wolves - EL partners of the Detroit Tigers - to do baseball battle with the Rock Cats from a 6:35 PM first pitch on Friday night through a 1:35 PM Sunday afternoon tilt. Before all the action on the field begins, however, we'll have a very special event outside the Main Gates. Skeeter Kingsolver, the charismatic young member of the 2011 Professional Bull Riding Tour, will be at the Stanley Tent signing autographs for his many fans between 5:00 - 6:00 PM. The authentic cowboy will then come inside - be presented a Rock Cats jersey by `Cats CEO Bill Dowling - and then toss out the evening's Ceremonial First Pitch to get the game started. And once all the action on the diamond concludes on Friday night, please stick around for a Friday Night Spectacular Fireworks Show that is sponsored by our good friends at Stanley Black & Decker. We wish to add that Mr. Kingsolver is a member of Stanley's team of Professional Bull Riders and thus his exciting appearance on Friday is also sponsored by our great neighbors here in the Hardware City.
Friday is also Fritos Family Night at the Stadium in which a randomly selected fan will have the opportunity to participate in a special ballpark experience - he or she will be invited to assist the `Cats game staff with an on-field contest, serve as the Public Address announcer for an inning, or partake in some other unique Stadium experience. This will be great fun for some lucky fan!
SATURDAY EVENING, JUNE 11th, 6:35 PM
The gang from the Keystone State is back on Saturday evening at 6:35 PM to play Game 2 of this 3-game set. This Erie club is a talented one that we don ¬â¢t see much of as they play in the West Division, but they are usually a pleasure to watch. And speaking of pleasure, the Famous Dancing Christopher will be with us on Saturday night. This crowd-pleasing act has to be seen to be believed ¬" it ¬â¢s great fun for all ages! We thank our great friends at DATTCO for sponsoring his appearance. There will be pre- and post-game fun in New Britain on Saturday as well: The former involves a Pre-Game Block Party that will kick off about 4:00 PM where there will be games, inflatables, and other fun activities for kids before they enter the ballpark. Sponsored by our pals at Guida ¬â¢s Milk and D ¬â¢Angelo, there will also be free food sampling! And as fans enter the Stadium on Saturday night, they ¬â¢ll be presented a Rock Cats ¬â¢ Player T-Shirt Giveaway, thanks to DATTCO and the Rock Cats And when all the on-field action concludes, please stick around for the Post-Game Launch-A-Ball contest where fans get a chance to win great prizes by tossing tennis balls at fixed targets out on the field. In addition to the evening ¬â¢s on-site winners ¬" all proceeds go to the Rock Cats Foundation, the club ¬â¢s charitable arm ¬" so everybody wins!
SUNDAY AFTERNOON, JUNE 12th, 1:35 PM:
The Rock Cats and Sea Wolves will engage in baseball battle for the final time in this series at 1:35 PM on Sunday afternoon. And, of course, as its Sunday at New Britain Stadium, all kids are invited down to the field for an unforgettable Post-Game Father ¬â¢s Day Parent-Child Baseball Catch, thanks to the good folks at the Barnum Financial Group. Moreover, the good people at St. Francis Hospital ¬â¢s Curtis D. Robinson Men ¬â¢s Health Institute - and the Connecticut Joint Replacement Institute - are with us and sponsoring a Rock Cats Hat Giveaway for the first 1,200 fans into the ball park on Sunday. Wear the new lid in good health!
