New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats of the Eastern League announced today that two new players - an Infielder and a Pitcher - will be joining the team upon its return to Connecticut from Bowie, MD. Each will be making his first appearance at the Double-A classification.
INF Brian Dozier, a 24-year-old Fulton, Mississippi resident who the Minnesota Twins selected in the 8th Round of the 2009 Draft, has been promoted to New Britain from Ft. Myers in the Single-A, Florida State League. The 5"11'/190-pound middle-Infielder is a University of Southern Mississippi product who departs the Miracle on the heels of being named to the FSL's 2011 mid-Season All-Star Team. His selection was based, in large part, on his strong offensive showing over the first half when he submitted a team-high .322 BA with 2 HRs, 22 RBI and 13 Stolen Bases. In portions of three professional seasons, the right-handed hitting Tupelo, MS native owns a career MiLB BA of .303;
RHP Deinys Suarez, a 27-year-old native of Havana, Cuba who defected in 2009, has been signed to a Minor League contract by Minnesota and will join the Rock Cats tomorrow. The 5'11"/194-pound hurler was a member of several prominent amateur squads in Cuba including, most prominently, the Cuban National Team that participated in the 2006 World Baseball Classic. He departed Cuba with a composite record of 30-17, spread over several teams and competitions. Since signing last month, Suarez has been working out at the Twins' Minor League Complex in Florida and, like Dozier, will travel north today.
