Five Different Sea Dogs Score in Win over Phoenix

The Saint John Sea Dogs (14-8-0-3) defeated the Sherbrooke Phoenix (16-6-1-0) for the first time in the past five years in Sherbrooke on Saturday. The Sea Dogs hit the back of the net five times, with goals coming from Ryan Francis, Cam MacDonald, Charlie DesRoches, Christopher Inniss, and Jérémie Poirier in the 5-1 win.

A 35 save performance by Noah Patenaude led the way before he left the game early after being injured on a save. Jonathan Lemieux replaced him, making 12 saves in his replacement. Ivan Zhigalov was in goal for the Phoenix, making 19 saves on the 24 Sea Dogs shots.

Midway through the first period Ryan Francis opened the scoring, picking up a loose puck off a shot from Jérémie Poirier and getting past the netminder.

At 12:18, Phoenix captain Xavier Parent tied the game up at one, but it did not last long.

Two minutes later, William Dufour won the puck battle behind the net and found an open Cam MacDonald in the slot. Sending a pass to MacDonald, who was able to shoot a one timer for the Sea Dogs second goal of the night.

With 52 seconds remaining in the period, Charlie DesRoches sent a rocket of a shot top shelf and the Sea Dogs took a 3-1 lead into the second period.

Shots after the first were 16-12 for Sherbrooke.

5:59 into the second frame, Christopher Inniss scored his first goal of the season. The defenceman sent a shot from the blue line through traffic and over the shoulder of the goaltender.

With five minutes remaining in the period, after making 35 saves on 36 shots, Patenaude fell awkwardly making a save and was assisted off the ice. Jonathan Lemieux replaced him in net for the remainder of the game.

Shots after the second were 37-21 for Sherbrooke.

5:32 into the final period, Jérémie Poirier put the final nail in the coffin with the Sea Dogs' fifth goal of the night. Saint John would go on to win 5-1.

Final shots were 48-24 for Sherbrooke.
