Five Chiefs Attending Camps
September 1, 2009 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Spokane Chiefs News Release
Jared Cowen is one of five Spokane Chiefs that will attend a pro camp this fall with NHL teams. Cowen was the Ottawa Senators first round draft selection, ninth overall, last June and will spend the pre-season there rehabbing his knee injury.
Levko Koper, the Atlanta Thrashers seventh round pick in 2009, will leave September 4th to attend their camp. Koper and the Thrashers will play in the annual Traverse City tournament with eight other team's prospects, including the Minnesota Wild where Tyler Johnson will be attending camp. Johnson, a free-agent invitee, will leave on Thursday, September 3rd.
Mitch Wahl, the Calgary Flames second round pick in 2008 will attend their camp beginning on September 7th.
Goaltender James Reid will be attending the Vancouver Canucks prospects camp starting on September 6th.
On Friday, Spokane will travel to take on the Portland Winterhawks in the Everett Silvertips Annual Pre-Season Tournament. The Chiefs will play three games in three nights with a game versus Tri-City on Saturday and the host Silvertips on Sunday. All three games will begin at 3:00.
A number of former Chiefs will also be participating in the Traverse City tournament, including Trevor Glass with the New York Rangers. Glass had signed a contract with their AHL team, the Hartford Wolf Pack in the offseason. Drayson Bowman, a 20-year-old who has signed a contract with Carolina, and Justin McCrae, last year's Chiefs captain as a 20-year-old, will play for the Hurricanes. Joining Johnson on the Wild's roster will be former Chief defenseman Justin Falk.
