New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Due to heavy rain, the Fisher Cats and the Akron Aeros were postponed on Saturday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. The teams will now play a doubleheader starting at 12:35 PM on Sunday, one hour earlier than the original Sunday start time.
The doubleheader will feature two seven-inning games with a thirty minute break in between. Tickets for Sunday's game are good for both ends of the doubleheader. If you had tickets for Saturday night's rain-out, you can exchange them for any future 2012 regular season game at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Sunday's doubleheader will feature a 2011 Eastern League Championship Photo Canvas giveaway for the first 1,500 fans courtesy of U.S. Cellular. After the game, Kids Run the Bases courtesy of the Buyers Beware Program. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com.
Radio coverage of Sunday's doubleheader begins at 12:15 PM with Tom Gauthier and Dick Lutsk on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.
Additionally, another former Fisher Cat was promoted to the Major Leagues on Sunday. The Toronto Blue Jays selected the contract of former Fisher Cats infielder Adeiny Hechavarria as part of four moves made by the Blue Jays after their game on Friday.
Hechavarria joined the team in Oakland and started at third base earlier today, replacing Brett Lawrie, who was injured Friday. Hechavarria became the eighth player this season, and the 60th overall, to debut in the major leagues after having played for the Fisher Cats.
Hechavarria heads to the big leagues after spending an All-Star season with Triple-A Las Vegas, hitting .312 with 138 hits (third in the Pacific Coast League) in just 102 games. He was fourth in the league with 78 runs scored while also compiling 20 doubles, 6 triples, 6 home runs, and 63 RBI.
The 23-year-old native of Cuba was a key member of last year's Eastern League champions, playing stellar defense at shortstop, and hitting .235, with 22 doubles, 6 triples, 6 home runs, 58 runs, and 46 RBI in 111 games before being promoted to Las Vegas on August 4. He was both a mid-season and post-season Eastern League All-Star. Hechavarria made his Fisher Cats debut in June, 2010, hitting .273 with 69 hits, 36 runs, and 34 RBI in 61 games.
Hechavarria joins a lengthy list of former teammates and Fisher Cats who have debuted with the Blue Jays this season: pitchers Drew Hutchison, Evan Crawford, Sam Dyson, and Aaron Loup, outfielders Anthony Gose and Moises Sierra, and C/INF Yan Gomes.
