Richmond Flying Squirrels News Release
Harrisburg, PA - The Richmond Flying Squirrels (56-58) were stymied by a trio of Harrisburg Senators' (55-59) hurlers as the Senators blanked the Squirrels, 1-0, on Saturday night at Metro Bank Park. The loss marked the eighth time this season the Squirrels have been shutout on the year. Coupled with a win by the Bowie Baysox, the Squirrels are now three games out of the wild-card spot in the Western Division.
Both starters dominated over the first six innings of the ballgame. Harrisburg righty Ryan Perry allowed five hits and walked one, but didn't permit a runner past second base. He worked a scoreless seventh inning before calling it a night to a no-decision. Richmond left-hander Chris Gloor was even better. He rolled through six one-hit innings, walking two and fanning five.
Gloor posted a scoreless seventh inning and returned for the eighth. He recorded the first two outs, but fell behind Brian Goodwin. Goodwin belted his 2-1 pitch over the wall in right-center field. Goodwin's third home run of the season was the only run scored in the ballgame. It was also just the third home run of the year permitted by Gloor.
Gloor (2-3) was tagged with the hard-luck loss as the Squirrels lost for the fourth straight time with Gloor on the hill. He was credited with a complete game, and turned in the longest outing of the season despite the defeat. He permitted just three hits, walked three and struck out five.
Left-hander Pat McCoy (6-1) worked the eighth inning for the Senators and earned the win in relief. Right-hander Hector Nelo had no trouble with the Squirrels in the ninth, earning his 14th save of the season with a perfect frame.
The finale of the three-game series is scheduled for 2 PM on Sunday afternoon at Metro Bank Park. Richmond RHP Craig Westcott (9-8, 3.72) will oppose Harrisburg LHP Danny Rosenbaum (7-8, 3.64). Pregame coverage will begin at 1:30 PM on Sports Radio 910 and SportsRadio910.com .
