Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
Winnipeg Goldeyes manger Rick Forney announced today the signing of right-handed pitcher Brandon Forshee (fohr-SHAY).
Forshee, 21, is coming off a stellar final collegiate season with the Francis Marion Patriots, as their closer. In 27 games, the product of Jacksonville, Fla. was 3-0 with a 2.88 ERA and an impressive 13 saves, as he helped the Patriots reach the final of the NCAA II Southeast Regional Championship.
As an indication of how good Forshee's senior season was, his 13 saves ranked fifth among all NCAA Division II pitchers and was tops in the Peach Belt Conference. Other honours for Forshee include being named to the National College Sports Writers Association All-Regional Second Team for the second-straight season.
In 2009 with the Patriots, Forshee went 5-2 with a 2.08 ERA and four saves.
Forshee spent his freshman and sophomore seasons of collegiate ball at the junior college level with the St. Johns River Community College Vikings.
In another move, the Goldeyes have also released right-handed relief pitcher Philip Roy.
Winnipeg has 20 players on its active roster after these moves, including 10 pitchers and 10 position players.
Winnipeg is back in action tonight when it travels to Fargo to meet the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in the first of three games at Newman Outdoor Field this weekend.
