First Pre-Season Game Tonight

October 12, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Amarillo, TX - The Amarillo Gorillas first week of practice concludes today with their first of two pre-season games against the Oklahoma City Blazers set for 7:05 PM. Tonight will provide the Gorillas an opportunity to look at some of their young players trying to crack the opening day lineup. With 23 players on their training camp roster, the Gorillas will have to trim at least four players by Thursday, October 18th.

Head Coach Jim Wiley is pleased with the way his team has looked in camp so far.

"Our camp thus far has progressed in a fashion suitable for this time. Players are still trying to adjust to their new teammates and learning a system," Wiley noted. He is also looking forward to tonight's game.

"We expect to compete in Oklahoma City, with the intention of winning our games but, more important is the evaluation of the players," said Wiley, adding "Although many coaches put little value on exhibition games, I personally feel that it is a good measuring stick for what we as a team need to be better prepared for. I will be looking for system execution and the players abilities to carry that out."

The Gorillas will play tonight at 7:05, and finish up their pre-season with an afternoon tilt tomorrow, set for 1:00 PM. After Saturday's contest, Amarillo will return home and finish their last week of practice in preparation for the season opener on Friday the 19th, when the Gorillas will host the Tulsa Oilers at the Amarillo Civic Center.

The Gorillas will host their season ticket holder party on Monday, October 15th from 5:00-7:3o at the Amarillo Civic Center. Season ticker holders will have a chance to meet this year's players and staff, while enjoying some food and entertainment.
