Worcester Tornadoes News Release

WORCESTER, MA- Get ready, the boys are back! The Worcester Tornadoes begin a six day six game home stand with exciting promotions and events beginning Tuesday, June 6th against the Sussex Skyhawks at 7:05 P.M.

"We're excited to have the team back in town. We have great promotions set up for this week, and we're ready for a superb week of Tornadoes baseball," said Todd Marlin, General Manager.

The Tornadoes will get their first look at the Sussex Skyhawks on Tuesday (June 6th) as they celebrate the first birthday of Twister, the team's loyal mascot. Prior to the game, Twister and his mascot friends will be playing a friendly game of kickball in the outfield. Be sure to bring your sweet tooth to the park because 1,000 fans will be treated to a slice of birthday cake to celebrate Twister's big night.

The finale of the Skyhawks series on June 8th should prove to be a flying success as the Tornadoes will be hosting a Superman night to promote the upcoming movie which hits theatres June 28. The Tornadoes will be working with Regal Cinemas to raffle off 50 movie passes to fans during the game. Fans are encouraged to leave their kryptonite at home and come to the game dressed as their favorite Superman character.

The weekend series marks the opening of the Commonwealth Cup Series as the Tornadoes host the Lynn-based North Shore Spirit in a three game set starting Friday night, June 9th, at 7:05. The Commonwealth Cup Series, sponsored by the Massachusetts State Lottery, has the CanAm League's three Massachusetts teams (Tornadoes, Spirit and Rox) competing for state bragging rights. The team with the best winning percentage during Commonwealth Cup play will be crowned the official winner at the end of the season.

There are exciting promotions set up for each of the three weekend games, as well. Friday night's contest will feature a baseball card giveaway, sponsored by TD Banknorth. The first 1,000 fans to enter the park will be given a Tornadoes team pack of cards which includes all the players, coaches, Twister as well as the winner of the Mini-Pak baseball card promotion.

The Saturday night match up, sponsored by the US Army, will feature camouflage baseballs for the first 1,000 fans through the gates. Sunday, June 11th, is Tornadoes Tykes Day. Following the game, Tykes Club members will be allowed to run the bases just like the players. "We have a number of different and exciting promotions to cater to the wide variety of fans that we attract. From giveaway baseballs to a lucky fan having his own baseball card, it should be a great week," said Joe Izzo, Assistant General Manager of Sales and Marketing.
