BROCKTON, MA - (August 20, 2009) - The Brockton Rox dropped the rubber game of a three-game series with the Quebec Capitales 6-3 on Thursday night at Campanelli Stadium. With the victory, the Capitales took a one-game lead over the Rox for first place in the 2nd half standings.

The scoring started early, as Quebec's first two batters reached in the first against LHP Fraser Robinson, and SS Ivan Nacarrata belted a three-run home run to right field. The Rox countered in the bottom half of the inning when 1B Clyde Williams smashed a RHP Dan Sausville offering over the Beer Garden in right field for a solo home run.

Quebec grabbed another run in the second to take a 4-1 lead. From that point on, Robinson and Sausville were very effective. In the top of the fifth with one out, RF Sebastian Boucher hit a line drive that struck Robinson, and he was forced to leave the game. RHP John Kelly entered in relief and made his first appearance since June 16th. Boucher later scored on a CF Geofrey Tomlinson sacrifice fly. Brockton answered back in the bottom half of the sixth inning when RF Keith Brachold singled home DH Palmer Karr.

Kelly pitched a perfect seventh inning and was lifted for LHP Brad Hertzler, who delivered a scoreless eighth. The Capitales scored an unearned run in the ninth, extending the lead to 6-2.

The Brockton bats rallied in the ninth, as 3B Phillip Cuadrado led off the inning with a double, and scored on a PH Melvin Falu sacrifice fly to the warning track. SS Dominic Ramos was able to reach, and both CF Chris Valencia and Williams came to the plate as the tying run, but Quebec reliever LHP Mike Joyce struck out Valencia, and got Williams to pop out to centerfield, sealing the victory for the Capitales.

The Rox will head to Worcester to begin a three game weekend series with the Tornadoes on Friday. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05, and LHP Craig Anderson (7-4, 3.61 ERA) will start for Brockton.
