O'MALLEY'S SAC FLY IN NINTH WINS IT FOR NEW HAMPSHIRE
AUGUSTA, N.J. - Mike O'Malley's sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth scored pinch runner Breland Brown from third and gave New Hampshire a 2-1 victory over Sussex on Thursday night at Skylands Park.
With the bases loaded and one out, O'Malley was able to launch a fly ball to deep right field, scoring Brown easily from third. Sussex reliever Sandy Nin was able to limit the damage to just the one run, but that was all New Hampshire would need. Sussex loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but Adam Piechowski pitched out of trouble to pick up his second save of the season.
Sussex's Carter Clements and New Hampshire's Miguel Flores were locked in a pitcher's duel through seven. Clements worked seven, giving up one run on four hits. He walked two and struck out seven. Flores picked up the win, working eight innings and yielding one unearned run on six hits. He also walked two and struck out seven. Sussex's Stephen Fox took the loss after loading the bases in the ninth.
Jorge Moreno doubled in Ryan Crespi in the bottom of the third to give Sussex a 1-0 lead. New Hampshire answered in the fifth when Jabe Bergeron drilled a solo home run.
New Hampshire travels to Quebec on Friday for a 7:05 game. Sussex returns to Skylands Park on Friday to begin a three game series with New Jersey. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m., with a fireworks show to follow the game.
